:: CAWAN KOPITIAM - PEKAN SENAI ::

Hi Blog ~
It has been quite sometimes since me last updating my blog...huhu... freaking busy with the newly launched campaign 8/2011 Tupperware Brands Malaysia... with so much things to be done at work and at home... but today.. since it is Friday and Friday means malas and hu-ha-hu-ha day for me...I take the opportunity to continue my review :-)
photo courtesy from Google
CAWAN KOPITIAM :)
Located in Taman Impian Senai, you can easily find this restaurant because it is located just in front of the main road. I never thought this is a Malay-owned kopitiam since it looks more or less like an apek's style shop until one of my dear friend introduced it to me... my first visit was back in September (I think...can't remember..for dinner with family) but since I was too busy with the kiddoz... I don't have much time to really taste the food... so, during my second visit 'all-alone'...I finally ready for the review :-)

No doubt, a good effort for a Malay to do such a nice Kopitiam... especially at the right place, near housing and manufacturing areas where people consistently looking around for a place to have their brekkie, lunch and dinner... Cawan opens from 7.30am till nite (not sure what time..). Tell you what... the customers constantly in and out of the shop. Ouh... I was there during lunch hour and it was almost full with customers (I can see from Kaw. Perindustrian Senai ...like Panasonic, etc...).. surely they are having a real good business. Anyway, Cawan has branches in other areas using the name of Mak Tok; one in Bandar Putra (near my house) and another one in Setia Tropika (near KDN). Not sure if they have more than that...

Counter - all workers were busy during lunch time
This time round, I had a glass of Air Sirap Bandung Soda and Seafood Udon Noodle. I was a big fan of Udon..thanks to Cititel MidValley that served a supernice Blackpepper Udon to me many years before..huhu... actually I already tried Cawan's Blackpepper Udon on my first visit but frankly - it wasn't that nice as expected. That's why I twisted a bit and tried the seafood's one...see how...

Sirap Bandung Soda sampai dulu :) Memang sangat sedap... just nice for my taste buds... because it contains the right amount of syrup, milk, sugar, soda and ice... I have to say it perfect for me..because I x suke manis2 melampaui batas nie...

Tadaaaa.. after 5-10 minutes wait, my Seafood Fried Udon arrived! I can tolerate the time since the shop was 3/4 full! Yummeh kan...served on Ikea-made shining white plate with clean presentation... :) Definitely x dapat tewaskan presentation KFCH International College lar...

Taste-wise... err.. err.. err.. unfortunately, it didn't reach my expectation :( Well, my expectation is not that sky high but their Fried Udon is a biasa-biasa only...mcm mee goreng kt kedai2 biasa2 tu jek... which is not worth the price of RM6.50. Too bad, kan? Some more, by carrying the name of SEAFOOD FRIED UDON... I was expecting like 2-3 pieces of medium sized prawn, squid, fish fillet cut into cubes or at least fishcake, fshball and crabstick... but awww... what I got was one small prawn, one squid...itu je kot... huhuhu :( seafood kah..??

Well, overall ratings - I can give 2.5 /5 je la kot.. after 2 visits. Nak kata tak sedap tu tidaklah... ok jek..some more di tanggung Halal kan.. but it well below my expectation...compare to the price...nak kata takkan dtg lagi tu tidakla..but maybe sometimes.. kadang2.. I hope they can improve.. because business-wise.. they have a lot of potential... improve their recipe.. serves more selection and make sure they have a good customer service. Wish you luck guys... me looking forward for a better Cawan Kopitiam in the near future!

:: SALAM AIDIL ADHA ::

SALAM AIDIL ADHA TO ALL MUSLIM READERS OUT THERE :-)

Due to my work and Tupperware commitment, I haven't managed to update my blog frequently. In fact last week... did I wrote something? I don't think so but trust me, I have a lot of food story pending to be shared with you guys out there :-)

Since I am still in raya mood... although it was 3 days ago... I celebrated my Eid with my mom, brothers and kids (Eiman & Arissa) at Muar. My husband and eldest daughter were not around due to some reason... no, kitorg bukan gaduh yer... pasal komitmen kerja my husband la..

The bestest thing about Eid is the opportunity to enjoy, indulge and savour my mom's cook... she is the best! Name any chef in the world, no one can ever beat her cook...!!! These were what we had for Hari Raya Qurban :)

Menu Hari Raya Aidil Adha 2011
Clockwise - Nasi himpit, kuah lodeh, kurma daging, kuih bakar pandan (remember the recipe of kuih bakar labu I shared before? The recipe is just the same...) and sambal kacang.

While writing this post, meleleh air liur mengenangkan keenakan masakan bonda saya... :) Huhu...

:: KUIH BAKAR LABU ::

Kuih Bakar - baked in oven
 Hi Friends :)
I haven't got a chance to update my blog yesterday since I was busy at home doing a lot of 'maid'-thingy..huhu.. Today, I'll share with you a recipe I inherited from my beloved mom... an extremely simple recipe.. suitable for vegetarian and everybody can do! This cake is called Kuih Bakar Labu or some may call it Bingka Labu... whatever.. but this kuih is my favourite, I am a big fan of pumpkin :)

Before I start talking about the recipe itself, it would be better if I tell you about the mould first. As far as I know, there are 2 different sizes - small and large. Since I came from a small family, I bought a small one which is just nice to feed the 5 of us :) You could get this mould from any baking shop or even kedai periuk as well. I can't remember exactly how much it costs me, but I remember bought this piece at Pasar Borong Selangor @ Seri Kembangan.

Kuih Bakar Mould
Okay..let's go to the recipe. As I wrote before, it is damn easy to make this cake. All you need are:
Sugar
Flour
Coconut Milk
A slice of pumpkin, boiled till' soft

How about the quantity? This id depend on the size of the mould :) My mom taught me by using the large mould, so I halve her quantity :)

For small mould:

1 cup of Sugar (you may use half or 3/4 as well..follow your sweet tongue..I always use 3/4)
2 cups of Flour
3 cups of Coconut Milk with boiled pumpkin mashed       inside it

NOTE! Boiled pumpkin is watery, you may need to adjust or agak-agak.. follow your sense or you'll end up with pengat labu..hehe..
(for large mould, double up the measurement...)

How to bake this cake:

There are 2 ways you can bake this cake. But before that, brush some cooking oils to the inner part of the mould and pre-heat for 30-45 second. This is to avoid the mixture from sticking to the mould.

Pour the mixture into the mould.

You may choose either one of the baking method:

1/ Bake directly on the gas stove..the result will be a real kuih bakar like you seen in many nasi lemak stall, with dark brown or black kerak2 that is nice.. purely traditional way

OR

2/ Place in a pre-heated oven at 180-200 degree, bake till done. The result will be a nice Kuih Bakar Labu like photo above.

Normally it takes around 40-50 minutes. Let the cake cold to room temperature before slicing it. Or else akan melekat2 dan lembik..

Alternatively, you may also use this recipe to make a Kuih Bakar Pandan by removing the pumpkin and add pandan leaves water to coconut milk.

Try this and give your testimonial :-)

:: ABC COKLAT TERBAIK ::

I remember one and a half year back, I was craving for a good bowl of ABC. I was then introduced to this real type of ABC by my Mr. which turned to be a few minutes away from my office..!!

Located at Medan Selera Taman Bunga Ros, Kangkar Tebrau, JB ~ I guessed for peeps who are not familiar with JB area, it will definitely very difficult for them to find out the exact location. Some more Taman Bunga Ros is nothing compare to Tmn Pelangi, Taman Daya, Taman Molek etc etc... Make it simple, if you are coming from Taman Daya, turn right at the traffic light (direction to Kangkar Tebrau). You will see Indian graveyard on your left, the food court is just after that (in front of Universal Cable).

The ABC stall owned by young Malay guy named Hairul Hadi, i have to tell you that the queue is pretty long every lunch hour. However, the service is as fast as lightning!

Aku cakapla.. ABC nie memang terbaek la...!!! Generous giller..!!! You can see from the picture above, kan..?? Air gula warna-warni yang manisnya just ngam-ngam cun untuk sesuatu yg bernama Air Batu Campur... kacang merah saiz besar yang banyak (kidney beans), cincau, kacang, jagung pun rasa mcm ada.. then sagu besar2 mcm pearl kt Cool Blog tu.. ada buah kabung juga 2 biji for each bowl unless dia terletak lebih..hehe ..phewww... then topped with a scoop of Ice-Cream yg wa cakap lu...bukan aiskrim cap Pak Cik Taha yer... (sorry aku main belasah je nama sape2...kekekek)... dia pakai aiskrim neopolitan cap Nestle tau... yang mangkuk biru tu... so kira nasib la korang dpt bahagian coklat ke, vanila ke.. stroberi ke..yang penting lazat dan penuh perisa... not enough with the wonder of ice cream... finished with chocolate sauce yg wallawei..... melting moment..!!! The good reason why I am so gemuk since kerja kt Tebrau nie..hehe..!!

Selain ABC Coklat yg sangat meriah ini..they also serve Ais Jagung, Leng Chi Kang, Air Jagung Marvellous dan mcm2 jenis ais ais like Ais Jelly, Ais Koko bla bla bla... expanding his business further... the owner also runs business makan2 goreng2 at the same foodcourt... nanti ada masa aku bg review Char Kuey Teow dia...

Last but not least... ABC ini mmg sangat kelassss.... aku bagi 5 Star !
Harga: RM3.00 jekk..... :x

The stall is just nearby my home in Bandar Putra, KulaiJaya. Biasanya, bab-bab makan ini husband la yang introduce... he has a fussy tastebuds so most of the time kalau dia yg intro makan2 baru nie..mmg kena la dgn tekak aku yang asal boleh ini :-)

A bowl of Meehoon Kari Putra is just nice to keep your hunger away :) The stall opens from 5pm-11pm (or kalau cepat habis, tutup awal lah..) The gravy is thick..full of flavour :) One bowl of hot steamy Meehoon Kari Putra consists of :

:: MEE REBUS SPECIAL STULANG LAUT ::

Alright my dear readers ~ let me start with my first review :: Mee Rebus Special Stulang Laut ::

Located at Plaza Larkin a.k.a Bangunan MARA just across the road from Larkin Sentral. Foods kat sini mmg yummeh! I told you..because according to my friends, mana2 peniaga yg nak sewa sini telah ditapis dahulu..well, even though I already been here quite a few times... I haven't tried all of the foods yet... my personal favourites are Mee Rebus nie dgn Roti Kacang Pool Haji which I have already planned to post the review sooner or later :-)

Well from what you can see ~ the presentation not like a 5 star hotel or even a cafe la kan... but who cares, because once they enter your sistem penghadaman everything will be mixed up to the state that you couldn't or don't want to imagine! The portion is just nice for someone who skipped her breakfast and jump to lunch straightaway...for me, kalau dah breakfast and makan mee nie utk lunch, kena paksarela untuk habiskan sepinggan la :)

What makes it Mee Rebus SPECIAL?

Okay... if you have an opportunity to drop by and try... they have a normal mee rebus and mee rebus special. Mee Rebus Special comes with 3pcs of crispy deep fried oyster mushroom and prawns plus some serdak-serdak crunchy which I dunno how to describe. Beside that, seperti mee rebus yang sihat dan normal..ianya hadir dgn lada hijau yg dihiris, limau sambal, telur rebus and daun bwg. For normal mee rebus, minus the mushroom and prawns ya!

The gravy is tasty and thick! Just nice and full of flavour. Sedap dihirup begitu sahaja :)

I was having my mee rebus with air bandung soda. A nice combination :)

Ouh lupa nak bgtau...harga Mee Rebus Special ini hanya RM5.00 :)
